Service to the community is one of the most rewarding goals for members of a chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. The New York Capital District Chapter has been involved in many service projects in which we use our needlework skills to help organizations in the community.

Van Schaick Mansion
Mary R. Hurd Sampler

Members of our chapter are going to create a chart and then stitch a reproduction of this sampler as a Thank You gift to the DAR at Van Schaick Mansion for allowing us to use their space while we stitched the New York Panel of America’s Tapestry.

Senate House Sampler
![]()
Last year, our chapter was contacted by the New York State Historic Preservation Office to ask if we could recreate a sampler that hangs in the Senate House in Kingston, NY,
Several members volunteered and spent many hours charting the design from the original piece. Once it was charted, several more talented stitchers volunteered to stitch the reproduction.
Pictured above is the reproduction which will eventually be framed and hung in The Senate House so that the original can be preserved in storage to prevent further damage from sunlight, dust, etc.
